It is not a secret that your workwear apparel and its style defines you as a professional, and distinguishes you from the group of your co-workers. When visiting an office for the first time, either when you are looking for a job or you are a client visiting your account manager, you make quick assumptions about people’s positions when you see them in a hallway. For example, if you see someone in a tie and a dress shirt you assume that this person is on the executive team.
The way we look and dress in a workplace oftentimes determines the level of our business success and our position on the corporate ladder. That is why it is crucial to acknowledge the importance of your corporate style.
Everyone has their own dress style. Some people prefer to wear polished, classic pieces even on a day-to-day basis, while others choose a more casual look that highlights their unique personality and lifestyle.
When choosing your personal workwear style, it is imperative to take into account the industry you work in. For example if you work at a bank or as a mortgage broker, you always have to look professional and flawless. As it is in the nature of your work to deal with money (and not your own money, but clients’ funds), you have to look trustworthy and radiate confidence and class.
If you are a doctor – you cannot show up at the office wearing your favourite hiking boots and a wrinkled robe. If you are a teacher, you have to dress appropriate to your age and not to imitate teenagers’ clothing fashion. If you are a lawyer, you wear your business suit every day, even on Fridays, or when you are not dealing with clients.
In a nutshell, choose your corporate clothing style wisely. Make your workwear work for you and not against you!
