Church Suits for Men

Traditionally, families attending church on Sundays will be seen dressing in their finest clothes. Most often, a gentleman’s finest item would be a suit. You can not feel like it is any other day than a work week day with your everyday business suit. But a church suit for your Sundays will make you feel like it’s a special day.

This would be basically a well designed suit, formal in appearance with the correct additional items such as shirt and tie. Although Sunday morning church has now become a much more social affair, shaking hands with the priest is still considered a formal part of the proceedings.

A hat can be worn if preferred. You should try to match the color with the suit. Nothing too fancy or extravagant would be suitable, neither would anything cheap and tacky. Smaller hats without too wide a brim are best.

These days the church has become more appealing to a younger, more liberal population. Despite this, shirts worn with the Sunday suit should be worn with a shirt that is reasonably plain. Button-down collars should be bottomed, but in some churches it is acceptable to wear the neck of the shirt open.

Men’s suit can, at times, look quite smart with an open neck. And although it is not always necessary to wear a tie, this should be based open the atmosphere at your local church.

The same suit rules should apply to the shoes you choose to wear with you Sunday suit as any other suit day. Black polished shoes with a dark suit is a fashionable thing to do.

As far as a brown suit you can either wear black or brown shoes but with a tan suit you may want to choose a brown dress shoe.

Out of respect for other church members you should keep your jewelry to a minimum, make sure it matches and keep all necklaces under your shirt and tie. Large, flashy pieces of jewelry can be distracting in church.
