Best and Worst Prom Dress Styles of 2009

At the Golden Globe Awards, some celebrities were chosen for either best and worst dressed. Similarly, there were some beautiful as well as hideous Prom Dresses of 2009. Let’s recap on some of the A list Prom Dresses, as well as some of the Recycle looking Prom Dress.

Best Prom Styles

1. Draped Backless Dress

This style never seems to disappoint. With a chic draped bodice and open back, it shows the lovely silhouette of a girls frame. The dress looks elegant and formal when it’s a floor length dress, and you can also go bold by wearing a gold draped backless prom dress. Earlier this year, Jennifer Lopez wore a similar dress at the Emmy Awards, proving the mom has still got the look!

2. Strapless long A-Line Dress

Strapless Dresses are classy and elegant. You can wear a strapless prom dress in a black, or wear red to attract attention. Either way, this stylish fashion shows your cute and classy trend. Obviously Kate Winslet knows what sleek and stylish is, after wearing a Black Strapless Dress at the Academy Awards. She even played up the color by wearing Dark Red Lipstick, and accessorizing beautifully.

3. Sweetheart Neckline Strapless Dress

See! We told you strapless dresses would be on top of the list! Sweetheart neckline shapes your figure, and a fitted bodice makes you appear slimmer, giving you the best of both worlds. Wearing a floor length dress, or a tail dress shows class and elegance. Gossip Girl, Blake Lively knows how to get people talking about her fashionista ways in her Steel Blue, Jewel encrusted strapless dress.

4. Criss-Cross Strapless Dress

There are many ways to play up a boring strapless dress. You can always choose a style that will fashionize it, by wearing a strapless dress with a criss cross overlay but, or you can wear a strapless dress with a notch at the bust. Larger frames can also wear a gathered bodice, to give the illusion of slenderness. Rouching and gathered dresses are the key the make you appear thinner. Julia Dreyfus wore a strapless modern cinched in waist by vera wang. The dress added volume to her curves, making it fit like a glove.

5. Tea Length Tulle Skirt with Sheer Straps

This dress makes a bold statement. If you’re looking to attract attention, and not trying to pursue a mainstream look, why not wear a tea length dress with a tulle skirt, and sheer top, with sheer straps. This dress shows your unique style, and boldness to pursue a look out of the ordinary. You can also accessorize the dress by wearing a belt to match the dress.

6. One shoulder strap Dress

This style is the latest trend, and we all know why! It look’s absolutely chic and sleek on any frame. The style is classic, and effortless. The style itself is loud and makes a bold statement. Michelle Obama has countless one shoulder strap dresses, making her look elegant and a fashionista. Lindsay Price also wore a one shoulder strap gown at the Emmy Awards. The dress is draped over her body, having her top slightly exposed. This dress compliments her shape, and it’s no wonder she was chosen at the top of the list for Best Dressed at the Emmy Awards.

Recycled or Not-so-Hot Prom Dresses

1. Bright Metallic Dresses

Anything that is too loud makes a statement, you want attention AND you don’t know how to dress. If course looking bold, and pursuing an out of the ordinary look can give you some props, but wearing a metallic dress with a loud color spells C-L-O-W-N. You want to your audience to be in awe of your fashion sense, not taking a picture of you and putting “what not to wear” for the headline.

2. TIGHT Dresses

You want a dress to compliment your frame. So going back to basics, you must know your frame and find out what styles compliment your figure. Well some girls think that buying wear an ultra tight dress, will make them appear sexy? NO! Wearing a tight dress leaves room for a disaster to happen, a wardrobe malfunction? it might even show your worst features. So the rule is, don’t wear anything that will cause any your lady bumps to be smashed.

3.One colored Dresses with no accessories

Unlike some celebrities on the red carpet this year, Vanessa Hudgens wore a black simple tight dress. How could she have been on the top list for best dressed? her accessories! Wear different color pumps to make your outfit fun! Or wear accessories to mix up the outfit, making you look sexy and outgoing. Otherwise, you’ll just go out looking pretty boring… yawns.

4. Layer on top of layer on top of layer Dresses

Accessorizing and playing up a simple color is the key, but when you layer your dresses, it hides your natural frame, and it draws attention to features of your dress (layers) which doesn’t give a dress a style other then a bunch of layers and styles all stack onto one.

5. Colors that do not match your skin Dresses

Everyone has a color that looks stunning on them, so why settle for it a dress that’s just plain beige, or just white? Try to mix and match, it will make your skin look radiant and stylish. This year, Elizabeth Moss wore a beige brown one shoulder strap dress. What’s the problem? The color doesn’t fit well with her fair skin! Otherwise, she would have been a runner up for the Best Dressed, not Worst Dress.

6. Any outdated Ruffled, Layered, Shiny, Tutu wearing Dress

We would all like to think that most girls know how to dress themselves without going to extremes, however we have learned yet again that celebrities wear the most awkward and weird things, that we can’t help and ask “what were they thinking” So by all means, if you’re first thought of a dress was “No, its too much, its too loud” Then don’t wear it. And if you need support from a friend, then ask there opinion, although we think you’d be right the first time. Avoid wearing anything to big from a skirt, a shiny bright metallic color, any funky looking hats, or off the wall colors. Trust me.
